Carbon Footprint in the RSA

Carbon Footprint

Carbon Dioxide is widely recognised as one of the leading agents that is affecting the environmental degradation of the world's environment. The cause of global warming itself is varied, complex and contentious, however it cannot be disputed that the world in which we live is definitely being affected negatively - due to many of our actions.

We understand that travel is a fundamental privilege for every single person worldwide. This is a right that should also be exercised however in a responsible manner with an effort to combat and reduce the impact our travels have on our immediate environment.

Thus we calculate what the Carbon Footprint is per guest that travels with us.

A Carbon Footprint simply is the amount of Carbon Dioxide we generate when we move from point A to B in our travels.

For every 500kgs of Carbon Dioxide our guests and clients generate, we automatically purchase local indigenous trees which are planted around South Africa. These trees minimise the affect these travels have had on the environment, whilst also creating local employment as well as facilitating a culture of environmental awareness and protection within local communities around South Africa

There are many simple ways in which you can assist the impact we have on the environment.

Here are a few areas that concern water useage which you can adopt:

Showering uses less than water than a bath. A bath uses up to four times as much water as a quick shower.

By putting one or two plastic bottles filled with water in your toilet's cistern, it will take less water to fill up after every flush. Even this small amount over weeks and months will help save large amounts of water.

Save water in your bathroom by not letting the taps run while you are brushing your teeth

Of course the recently release DVD called "The Inconvenient Truth" also highlights TEN simple ways in which you can assist in reducing your Carbon Footprint at home.

They are:-

Change a Light - Replacing one regular light bulb with an eco-friendly compact flourescent light bulb will save over 70kg of Carbon Dioxide a year!

Drive Less - Walk, bike, Carpool or take public transport more often. You save 0.5kg of carbon dioxide for every kilometre you don't drive

Recycle more - You'll save 1,100 kgs of carbon dioxide per year by recycling just half of your household waste

Check your Tyres - Keeping your tyres inflated properly can improve your petrol consumption by more than 3%. Every 10 litres of petrol saved keeps 9kgs of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere

Use Less HOT Water - It takes alot of energy to heat water: Use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead (160kgs of carbon dioxide will be saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold or warm water will save over 230kgs of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere a year

Avoid products with lots of packaging - You can save over 550kgs of carbon dioxide if you cut down your rubbish by only 10%

Adjust your Thermostat - Adjusting your geyser down by 2 degrees in summer and 2 degrees up in winter will result in over 800kgs of carbon dioxide per year

Plant a Tree - Plant lots of them. A single Tree will absorb aone ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime

Turn off electronic devices - Simply turning off your television, DVD layer, Hi-Fi and computer when you're not using them will save thousands of kilograms of carbon dioxide a year

Use a clothesline instead of a dryer whenever possible - You will save over 500kgs of carbon dioxide a year by air-drying your clothes instead of a tumble dryer
